Is My Car Seat Safe and Free from Harmful Chemicals?

We all want to keep our children safe--this is a big part of how we show our love for our kids. A car seat is a priority for anyone who will take their baby traveling by car.

Britax Car SeatA cool person on Maya's Mom posted this report on Chemicals in Car Seats so I read it and then went to the source: www.healthycar.org.

I was concerned because the report mentions one of the Britax Marathon Car Seats car seats. As it turns out, it is not ALL Britax seats that are ranked poorly...just ONE style (the Platinum). The rest rank very well. Also, this site breaks down the chemical content by whether it is in the base, the seat itself, or the clip! They didn't list the style I have, but I am very confident in Britax, despite this new information.

My recommendation for a convertible car seat is still the Britax Marathon. At this point, you want to prioritize crash test rating, then consider how long the seat will last for you (the Marathon will work rear facing 5-35 lbs and rear-facing to 65 lbs).

If you are concerned about chemicals, I would avoid the Britax Marathon in Platinum and/or consider buying a Toddler Car Seat Cover or a Ba Ba Seatskins Sheepskin Convertible Car Seat Cover - Porsche. PoshTots also has some adorable car seat covers. Or find more baby car seat covers on Shopzilla.

Britax at Target $249.99-299.99; BabyUniverse $269.99-299.99; Baby Age - Free Shipping On All Britax Items! $269.99-299.99

You should never buy an aftermarket carseat cover. It hasn’t been tested by the mfg, will void your warranty and your carseat may not work properly in a crash.
