I have always loved food and hated exercise. Due to a stressful job and travel schedule, my New Year’s Resolutions to get in shape had ended in failure on a repeated basis. But last January, I joined eDiets.com at a friend’s recommendation.
I actually managed to lose 15 pounds in 2 months, and kept the weight off until I got pregnant. eDiets.com worked for me where other diet plans failed because it combined a flexible meal plan with a customized exercise plan.
I was prompted to track both my exercise and my food consumption in the online tools. After inputting my daily food choices into the tracker, I’d receive feedback and tips on my eating habits and patterns. Using the included online nutrition tracker helped me more than anything else since I started paying attention to what I was eating and making healthier choices– especially at lunchtime and in the late afternoon when I used to reach for something fatty.
Since I traveled frequently for work, I needed a diet plan that permitted me to eat out. Using eDiets.com, I would customize my weekly meal plan online and select which meals I needed to eat out and the restaurants I planned to frequent. eDiets.com would provide healthy meal suggestions for popular restaurants like Subway and even for fast food places like McDonalds.
For meals at home, I had a choice between healthy recipes that involved some prep work and convenience foods. Having the ability to reach for a pre-packaged salad or frozen mac & cheese on days when I was too tired to cook kept me from going off track. When I felt like cooking, I could easily print the online shopping lists and the recipes.
I combined my diet with regular exercise using the online fitness plan and tracking tools. Since I did not want to invest in a gym membership, I needed a workout I could do at home or in a hotel room. After I filled out a personal fitness profile, I was provided with a full workout plan that included stretches, strength training (using a combination of small dumbbells and resistance bands) and cardio.
Since I was out of shape, my initial plan was fairly basic. But I would use the online tools to report on my exercise progress every week and rate whether I felt the workout was too hard, too easy or just right. As I progressed, new exercises were added to my plan and the difficulty of other exercises was increased. When I had questions, I was able to receive online support from the eDiets.com fitness trainers, who helpfully suggested new exercises and provided encouragement.
While I am no longer dieting due to my pregnancy, I have been able to keep up many of the healthy fitness habits I developed last year. If you are looking for a practical diet plan, I can highly recommend eDiets.com.
