Cloth diapering is environmentally-friendly and costs less than using disposable diapers, but the majority of moms still use disposable diapers. You’ve probably heard stories from your mother or grandmother about the hassle of using traditional cloth diapers. For me, that was a factor in choosing disposable diapers.
But the new reusable diapers from AppleCheeks inspired me to give cloth diapering another look. First of all, these diapers are adorable. They’re available in 10 colors, and they have a snug yet comfortable fit thanks to the soft elastic at the openings and the easily-adjustable snaps at the waist. AppleCheeks offers two sizes to fit babies from 7-40 pounds.
Unlike the waterproof diaper covers our mothers and grandmothers used, the AppleCheeks cover is breathable, soft polyurethane laminate. The interior of the cover is a soft microfleece, and there’s a wide envelope opening in each cover. This allows you the option of placing the absorbent hemp or bamboo/organic cotton insert underneath the microfleece lining, which makes it easier for you to change baby’s diaper in a hurry.
AppleCheeks offers video tutorials and detailed FAQs for parents. The AppleCheeks system is easy-to-use, and washing urine-soaked diapers isn’t difficult. But…you may be thinking “What about the poop?” There’s a FAQ to cover that too: “Once your baby is on solid foods, the poop does need to be disposed of prior to washing. If it does not bother you, you can shake the solid bits off in the toilet and dunk and swish to get the rest off, and then pop the soiled diaper into your AppleCheeks™ Storage Sac.”
I’ll confess that this does bother me. But my 1 year old is…ahem…fairly regular. So I’ve figured out that I can use a blend of disposable and reusable diapers depending on the time of day. I don’t have to deal with the poop dunking and swishing, but I can reduce my landfill usage. Your choice of diapers is a personal decision. But if you do opt for reusable diapers, the AppleCheeks system is high-quality choice.
