We adore tea parties–and tea parties for a cause are even better!
So, we were thrilled to join Kelly Ripa and a group of mom bloggers for a “Chari-Tea” and girls’ dress-up party in support of her partnership with Electrolux (Kelly-Confidential.com) to raise money for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.

I was impressed by Kelly Ripa’s tireless pep and her obvious dedication to the cause. I have to admit that I did not know a lot about ovarian cancer. I learned, though, that early detection is key to treatment but is very difficult. From the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund’s website:
Only 20 percent of cases are caught before the cancer has spread beyond the ovary to the pelvic region. When ovarian cancer is detected and treated early on, the five-year survival rate is greater than 92 percent. Sadly, though, most patients are diagnosed at advanced stages, and less than 50 percent of women survive longer than five years after diagnosis.
Kelly Ripa has partnered with Electrolux in the hope that our daughters will never have to know these frightening statistics.
It is amazing to me that we have such a positive outcome when this cancer is detected early but still do not have a simple way to screen for the disease. Think of what a difference this could make! And think of all the daughters, mothers, aunts, and grandmothers, whose lives we could save. Think of all the tea parties and special moments they could have with those they love.
