I always have my iPhone with me and I love the ability to instantly share, store, or print photos on Flickr, Facebook, Twitter, Shutterfly, Walmart, and even on my blog.
Sometimes for business, I need to be able to share immediately. However, my phone’s camera quality is poor. So, I bring along my camera but then I have to wait until I am somewhere I can transfer the pictures from my camera to my computer.
Eye-Fi sent me their Mobile X2 and I am just in love with this way to wirelessly transfer pictures from my camera to my smartphone or tablet.
A year ago, I lost some beautiful pictures of my kids. I had been uploading from my camera and then I deleted without verifying they had transferred. One of my favorite parts about Eye-Fi is that the photos transfer not only to your smartphone and your computer, you can also back up for 14 days (longer if you subscribe) to their server and you can upload automatically to a photo sharing site. So, there are multiple fail-safes to prevent a frazzled person from deleting priceless memories.
The hardest part of the whole system was setting up the direct share mode. There are multiple steps, no directions in the packaging, and not all the directions are located in the same spot on the website. If you go out of order or select the wrong option, you may have to start over again. Some of the options are also unclear and make me a little nervous (I don’t want to flood my facebook feed with an auto-posting of the hundreds of pictures, most of them blurry, that I snapped of those ladybugs). I am no techie but I am a fairly tech-savvy lay person and it took me far longer to set-up than most of my gadgets. Once I had it going, though, I couldn’t stop snapping pictures and transferring them to my phone and computer!
The Mobile X2 comes with 8G of space but you can activate “Endless Memory” and have the card make space for you after your photos and videos have been safely delivered.
Preserving my photos and being able to share them instantly is certainly worth the extra set-up effort. I’m the shutterbug and gadget gal in the family but even my husband was oo’ing and ahh’ing over the capibilities.
If you love your camera and your smart phone and just wish they would get along, get Eye-Fi to broker the match and you’ll have a happy-ever-after…plus the pictures to prove it!
