As I write this post, legislation that allocates funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known and frequently referred to as food stamps, is on the table in Congress. Substantial funding cuts are pending.
While there are many congressmen who are working to reauthorize the Farm Bill (the official legislation which provides the funding), we must to do our part as citizens. Without our participation, millions of families will lose access to the help they’re surviving on.
Nearly half of all SNAP participants are children. Would you leave a child on the brink of hunger if you knew there was something you could do about it?
NO KID HUNGRY is an organization dedicated to the eradication of childhood hunger. Join in the movement, and take action now.
Here’s how:
- Send a message to your Congress representatives, asking them to protect SNAP.
- Draw attention to the issue. Submit a letter or an editorial about the pending SNAP cuts to a local newspaper or publication.
- Have you benefitted from SNAP or food stamps? Inspire others to rally around the issue by telling your own story.
- Use social media to raise awareness. Have your friends join in the campaign by posting about NO KID HUNGRY on Facebook, Twitter, or your blog. Hashtag #NoKidHungry and follow @NoKidHungry.
If you and your family are well fed, share your strength. Today.
