Fall is actually one of my favorite times of year to travel. My friends at TravelingMom.com have created a beautiful and FREE ezine listing some of the best fall getaways for families. If you’re looking for vacation inspiration or even just a few day-trip ideas, you’ll enjoy their suggestions. I’ve actually taken several of the trips suggested, and I agree that some locations are just better in the crisp fall air.
New England is at its best in the fall. When I lived in Boston, the Halloween festivities in Salem, MA were always a treat. B&Bs seem more romantic in the fall. There’s something so wonderful about having a picnic outdoors after a scenic bike ride or an afternoon of apple picking.
Fall is an ideal time to visit cities like New York or Washington D.C. to take in the sights because the weather is the perfect temperature for walking. I love visiting museums and seeing the monuments in D.C., but I don’t think I know anyone who enjoys the August heat and humidity.
I try to plan a special activity every fall weekend. Tomorrow, I’m taking the kids to Sesame Place for the Halloween Spooktacular, and I don’t want to miss the Boo at the Zoo celebration at the Philadelphia Zoo or the fall displays at Longwood Gardens. Since I live in the Philadelphia area, I also take a ride out to Hershey, PA where my family can indulge in sweet treats during the Hersheypark in the Dark event.
