April is National Autism Month and what better way to spread awareness then to pick up a copy of The Spark : A Mother’s Story of Nurturing, Genius and Autism.
This book is a memoir of a truly amazing mother, Kristine Barnett, who never gave up on her son, Jake, even when medical professionals told her he would never be able to tie his shoes. By age 9 he was working on an original theory in astrophysics (that many experts believe my someday put him in line for a Nobel Prize) and currently at age 14, he is studying for his Ph.D. in physics!
Be prepared to shed some tears, this family had even more hardship than having a son with autism. They dealt with financial problems and Kristine had her own health issues on top of everything else. This family overcame impossible odds and their story is so inspiring. This is not a read you want to miss!
