Last week, I had the amazing opportunity to visit the 2014 Philadelphia Magazine Design Home. This jaw-dropping home is located in the Wyndmoor neighborhood, just adjacent to Chestnut Hill. Turning down East Gravers Lane, I was amazed at the various Tudor-style homes lining the street. But as I pulled up to the Design Home, i was nothing short of stunned.
Each year, Philadelphia Magazine picks a home and updates/upgrades/outfits the home with the latest and greatest in home design. From interior details, chic outdoor spaces and cutting technology, it’s everyone’s dream home! Locals can tour the home, and ticket sales benefit MANNA of Philadelphia. I love great causes!
I was invited by the lovely Joey Fortman, along with Comcast, to tour this home with some of my favorite bloggers. Upon entering the magnificent foyer, we were ushered into the kitchen. This kitchen was every home cook’s dream: marble countertops, stainless steal appliances and a pantry as big as some galley kitchens! We got to tour the entire space, checking out beautifully decorated kids rooms, the well-appointed basement and the spacious master bedroom (complete with a fridge and coffee maker!). It was a fantastic afternoon (and thank you, DiBruno Brothers for feeding us)!
Once we got our bearings (and finished oo-ing and ahh-ing over the most coveted Design Home features), the Comcast Freedom Team gave us the low-down on the all of the technology upgrades they outfitted the house with. I have been a Philly resident for my entire life, and well-aquainted with the Comcast Brand. But I had no idea how far they’ve come in recent years, and was truly impressed with the various features that are available not only to the Design Home, but to all Comcast customers.
The X1 is the new and improved cable box offered by Comcast. The guide has a new, sleek look and is easier to navigate. Next time you want to watch a movie, you can check out the Rotten Tomatoes or Flixter ratings right on the listing. Social media is integrated into the system, allowing you to find out what TV shows and themes are trending on Twitter or the chance to look at your Facebook photos right on your TV. The new RF (radio frequency) remotes no longer use infrared technology. This means you can put the box anywhere, and by pressing buttons you can choose your options. No more point-and-shoot remote controlling is necessary!
Along with the technology upgrades is the awesome Xfinity Home app. Can I tell you that this app does everything? With this app, you can pause what you are watching on television and pick up right where you left off on your tablet. Stream whatever you want to watch from the television onto your smartphone. The Home App can also connect to your security, thermostat and lighting. With the help of Comcast features, you can control your thermostat remotely and turn your lights off even when you are not at home! The security features were fantastic, allowing you to set up cameras inside and outside of your house to monitor your home, as well as entry sensors on your doors and windows. This app doesn’t just make your life easier – it helps your home be safer.
After my visit to the Design Home, I was sold – and I can’t wait to upgrade my technology! For more information on Xfinity Comcast, connect with them online and on Twitter.
