Going through gallbladder surgery and dealing with a family member going through cancer, the Merck Manual Consumer App, a free app filled with medical information was a true blessing for me and my family. The app is free and really easy to download. It is compatible with both Android and Apple devices. Once you go to the Google Play store or iTunes store, it will take some time to download the app because it is choked full of information that is also accessible offline.

For me, when I went through gallbladder surgery, I could easily find the information I needed to know about possible complications and it really helped me to better understand the procedure as a whole. Thier diagrams provided were very informative and the videos helped me and my family know what to really expect following the procedure. Thanks to the Merck Manual Consumer App, I was also able to come up with a list of questions to ask my surgeon beforehand. Going in to see the doctor or surgeon being fully prepared gave me an even greater understanding, and I think my surgeon was also grateful that I was so well prepared. After all, surgeons are very busy, and although he was happy to go over everything with me, he had other patients to care for and of course surgery to get to.
There are a lot of free apps and of course a lot of great medical information online. But the Merck Manual Consumer App is ad free, which is especially comforting when the only thing you want to do is find the answers to your medical questions. I don’t know about you, but those pesky little ads that pop up when I am in the middle of reading something are extremely annoying. With the Merck Manual Consumer App I can easily save and bookmark information to read or re-read later. It makes it really convenient to share the information I find with others too. I could easily share the new information I learned about the surgery with my husband and he was able to help me with that list of questions I had prepared for my surgeon. We were both able to ease our minds and get all of our questions answered. Plus, the Merck Manual Consumer App gave us a better understanding of everything before the surgery. It was a true godsend.
My father has cancer, so the Merck Manual Consumer App has been a great benefit in helping my family better understand his cancer, the recommended procedures as well as what we could expect in regards to the side effects from the radiation and the different medications. The app helped our whole family better understand what my father would go through and helped us know how we could best help him. When I would learn something new, I could easily share the information with my mother. We both came up with questions that we wanted to ask the oncologist. Watching a loved one going through cancer is a tough journey for all of us. But having the extra knowledge at our fingertips, the medical knowledge we needed to help us better understand and relate is immeasurable. I really cannot express what a great help this app has been. I am so glad that I found this free app full of helpful, up to date medical information.
