I would not go so far as to say that I am generally somebody who would get super excited about a day of whale watching or sport fishing. But one thing I definitely do love is anything I can do to spend time with my boys doing something new and different that I know they will love. Plus, I wouldn’t really turn down an opportunity to get outside, enjoy some fresh air, and take in the sights and sounds of the ocean.
Realistically, I’d much rather be sitting with my toes in the sand, a book in my lap, and the surf off in the distance than baiting a hook. But I have to admit, Dana Wharf and all of its wonders was an unexpectedly spectacular family outing while we were visiting friends in California.
I am about to share some pretty incredible photos with you – and all of them were taken on our excursions with no filter!
Kids Free Fishing Clinics and Dana Wharf
Since we were out in California for a getaway, we didn’t exactly pack heavy for every possible scenario. In other words, I didn’t lug my fishing poles and gear across the country. The beauty of the fishing clinics (and all of their fishing excursions, for that matter) is that Dana Wharf provides you with all your gear. Bait, tackle, poles–you name it, they’ve got it covered.
Every Sunday at noon, Dana Wharf provides free fishing clinics for kids. The staff is incredible–they are patient, friendly, and extremely educational. They teach the kids about the local marine life. The staff educates the young anglers on some of the most commonly caught fish in the area, too. After the clinic, there are amazing kid-and-family-friendly fishing excursions as well as loads of other kids activities you can participate in.
They also have a fun kids summer camp, after school camps, and other fishing adventures for kids of all ages.
Whale Watching
Seeing whales in the open water is something that words fail to describe. It truly is remarkable to see these magnificent creatures move through the waters of the Pacific Ocean. Dana Wharf’s whale watching tours are also incredibly kid and family-friendly because they’re educational while also being entertaining. The tours delve into migration and feeding patterns of the whales, and there are often naturalists on board the boats during the excursions.
Dana Wharf offers a whole lot more than simply kids fishing clinics and whale watching tours. The facility itself is nestled right between Los Angeles and San Diego in Dana Point, Orange County. Whether you are looking for a sport fishing charter, a whale-watching tour, or simply a family fishing trip, Dana Wharf is certain to make a lasting impression and cherished memories.
We saw some of THE most beautiful creatures I have probably ever seen on this trip. I know I have heard people talk about trips like these and they sometimes do not get to see much, but our trip was spectacular.
And as if there wasn’t already enough fun and entertainment, you can sign kids 13 and under up for the Wyland’s Whale and Dolphin Adventure Art Lesson.
All in all we had an incredible time and this is definitely something we will be doing again when we visit California.
