The 80’s were my decade.
It is when I started adolescence and really began coming into my own. I was a fine, fun, and fierce female.
I rocked crimped hair, side ponytails, and stacked socks with tight-rolled jeans, and I loved every second of it.
Now that the 80’s are making a comeback, you can bet your booty that I’m ALL about it. While I might not bust out the Z. Cavaricci’s again anytime soon, I am loving the 80’s makeup trends.
Bold Mascara
Back in the day, it was Maybelline who had the boldest and brightest shades of mascara. My favorite in the 80’s was a teal green color that made my green eyes pop. Recently, Maybelline has relaunched their colored mascaras for a limited time. So feel free to rock and relive the glory days of bold, bright makeup.
Bright Shadow
When I was in junior high, I would swipe a bright pink shadow from my lashes to my brows. I thought it looked cute. It did not. It looked like I had been hit in both eyes and we were just waiting for the swelling and bruising to start. Now that I know better, I’m super excited to bring back the bright eyeshadow as one of our top 80’s makeup trends.
Bushy Brows
Ok, maybe not BUSHY, bushy. But thicker brows are definitely coming back into style.
I remember Brooke Shields in the 1980’s making waves for her Calvin Klein ad. I remember thinking her eyebrows were huge.
I didn’t really care for the thick brows back then. Now I do, and I’m grateful I didn’t spend a lot of time tweezing when I was younger. This 80’s makeup trend is one of my favorites.
Statement Blush
I remember going to the makeup aisle of the grocery store when I was finding makeup for the first time ever.
I was in 6th grade at the time, and the makeup aisle had this machine where you put in things like your eye color, hair color, complexion color, and some other questions. Then it told you the colors that would look best on you for eyeshadow, blush, lipstick, mascara–the works.
I was peach. And the peach blush was bright and applied from the apples of the cheeks back into the hairline with an aggressive stripe of color. I’m pretty excited about this one because that means I can skip the contour and go straight to the sculpted blush.
Colored Eyeliner
For a long time, eyeliner was either brown or black, depending on if you were going for a softer look or a more glamorous look. But there was a time when colored eyeliner was the hottest 80’s makeup trend. And now, it’s coming back and I couldn’t be more excited! I am in love with the teal eyeliner.
When it comes to 80’s makeup trends, there are quite a few I’m excited to see return.
What’s old is new again, and now my kids get to “dress up” in the clothes and styles I knew and loved.
It certainly brings back a lot of memories.
The only thing that would top the 80’s makeup trend would be Debbie Gibson singing Electric Youth. Maybe I will bust out the Z. Cavaricci’s after all.
