Yesterday was the autumnal equinox, which means although *some* of us have been drinking pumpkin spice lattes and baking with all the fall flavors for a few weeks now, while wistfully wishing for cardigan weather, the fall festivities can now officially begin. If you don’t already have an autumn bucket list made out, allow us to help. From raking leaf piles to visiting pumpkin patches and picking apples, make this the best fall full of memories with some of these fun fall activities.
- Movie night in – The weather is cooling off and it’s beginning to get dark earlier each night. Set up a projector in the backyard, or pop in your favorite cozy movie and curl up with some popcorn and cocoa for a movie night in.
- Leaf hike – Go for a hike somewhere with lots of different trees and see how many different types of leaves you can collect. Take them home to identify, press, add to a nature journal, or make a leaf rubbing collage.
- Stargazing and s’moresing – Grab a tent and go camping, the weather is perfect for sleeping under the stars! Don’t forget the marshmallows.
- DIY pumpkin spice latte – Did you know all those fancy fall drinks are pretty easy – and much cheaper – to make at home yourself? Try these recipes for apple brown sugar syrup and pumpkin spice syrup and get ready for fall in a cup.
- Pumpkin patch – The pumpkin patches in our area boast everything from corn mazes and pony rides, to pig races and giant inner tube slides. Find one local to you and get ready for apple cider slushes and maybe even a hayride.
- Soup’s on – Autumn and winter are soup season in my house. We typically make some kind of soup several nights a week, which is perfect for lunch leftovers, too. This creamy chicken noodle soup is my and my daughters’ favorite (it’s even better when made with my homemade chicken broth) and my husband loves this cheeseburger soup.
- Curl up with a good book – It’s the perfect time of year to cozy up with a mug of hot tea and a blanket and get lost in a good book. This year I’ve really enjoyed going back to the classics, re-reading some old favorites and discovering classic books I hadn’t ready before. Whether you’re into the oldies, nonfiction, or murder mysteries, an afternoon spent lost in a book is never a waste of time.
