When I had my baby, I knew I planned to breastfeed and tried to refuse the “free diaper bag” from the formula company. “Take it,” they said, “It has free samples and coupons.” Too exhausted to argue, I accepted the bag. Beyond the formula, there was one newborn-sized diaper and a lot of advertisements.
A breastfeeding friend of mine kept finding her formula samples mysteriously appearing on her kitchen table. Her mom explained, “Just in case we run out of pumped milk…or you need a break.” She donated the samples the next day.
Now there is an alternative for moms who plan to breastfeed: the Healthy Baby Bounty Bag will be distributed in approximately 200 hospitals across the country starting this month, reaching 300,000 mothers of the 4.5 million births a year.
The bag contains milk storage bags, disposable nipple pads, samples, coupons, and information that supports and encourages breastfeeding benefits for both mom and baby.
Now the hospital discharge bag will match the message that breast is not only best but normal. Besides, this candy-apple green tote is a lot cuter than the blah, generic bag emblazoned with the name of a formula company.
