When I need entertaining advice or recipe ideas, I turn to my friend Martie Duncan, the entertaining expert behind Martie Knows Parties.
Martie offers practical yet original entertaining advice. If you’re hosting a New Years party, check out her top 11 champagne and sparkling wine picks or her favorite holiday cocktail recipes. (Many of Martie’s sparkling wine picks are under $15, which makes her site a great resource for the hostess on a budget!)
A few months ago, Martie recommended Belle Chevre Gourmet Goat Cheese in her article “How to Have a Wine and Cheese Tasting.” (I highly recommend the article if you’re looking for an easy yet sophisticated party idea.) Since Martie raves about this goat cheese, I knew it had to be good. Well…I finally had a chance to test Belle Chevre over the holidays when Martie sent some to me as a Christmas present, and I’m hooked! This goat cheese is fantastic. Plus, it arrived in a beautiful gift box with a pretty wooden cheese board.
Belle Chevre has been hand-crafting fine French style goat’s milk cheeses in rural Alabama for almost 20 years, winning over 50 national awards from the American Cheese Society and other famed foodie institutions. Belle Chevre is available at Dean & Deluca in New York, the Cheese Store of Beverly Hills and select Whole Foods stores and from their online shop.
I sampled Belle & The Bees ($6.50), an award-winning blend of creamy goat cheese and tupelo honey. Try it on a warm bagel for the perfect breakfast or on slices of fresh apple or pear for a delicious snack. I also tried Belle’s Pimento Chevre Spread ($6.50), a fresh take on the traditional Southern pimento cheese, and the Marinated Goat Cheeses ($20), which Real Simple Magazine praises as the perfect gourmet gift. Both cheeses would make excellent instant appetizers on crackers or fresh bread, but the marinated goat cheese really shines. It transforms a boring salad into a treat, and it tastes fantastic on pizza. Yum…I’ll be ordering this cheese again, and I’ve already asked my local Whole Foods if they’d consider stocking Belle Chevre since it’s too good to be just an occasional treat.
