Did you know that although more than 21 million children in the US get free or reduced-price school lunches, only 3 million get a free summer meal?
Most of us can probably count on our children being fed to their bodies’ content at any moment of any day. But millions of kids and parents face the summer with worry; the breakfasts and lunches being fed to them during school will be missing.
You may have read our post about Share Our Strength a couple of weeks ago, encouraging you to take action in saving the Farm Bill. We join Share Our Strength once again to ask you to take a stand against empty bellies.
This time around we need to spread the word about free meal sites funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Free summer meals are available to thousands of kids 18 and under across the country, but too many kids are accessing this resource.
Here’s what you can do to help:
- Take to social media and post about summer meals in your community.
- Write a letter to the editor of a local publication to raise awareness.
- Volunteer to distribute Summer Meals Flyers in your community.
- Make a donation to the No Kid Hungry campaign. Arby’s Foundation will match every dollar donated, up to $100,000.
Thank you for sharing your strength!
