“The house is clean, mom, who’s coming over?”
Anyone who knows me understands I am not much of a housekeeper. Sure, I could blame it on the three kids and two cats but to be honest, cleaning was never one of my talents. In fact, my husband picks up a lot of the slack in this department but he is away a lot for work and I do work from home. So, when I don’t have a big deadline, I try to tackle the housework.
While a sparkling house is not one of my priorities, I do want my children to grow up in a comfortable and healthy home. So, I am always on the look-out for products that make that easier.
The people at Shark sent me a Shark Sonic Duo so I could share my thoughts with you.
The Shark Sonic Duo electronically vibrates to glide over floors and scrub both hard surfaces and carpets clean. I have a lot of hardwood floors and tile and only one accent rug, so I would especially love a good solution to clean the hard floors.
According to the marketing materials, “The Sonic Duo technology is a unique combination of high-speed scrubbing action at 1,000 times per minute to remove stuck-on dirt and grime, and a custom cleaning solution and pad that results in a deeper clean leaving no sticky residue for a truly clean home. It removes four times more stuck-on dirt in carpets than vacuuming alone and deep cleans hard floors better than any mop on the market. [It is] safe for all floor surfaces including carpets, area rugs, hardwood, tile, marble, stone, laminate and linoleum.”
I don’t have any way of measuring how much cleaner my floors are after using the sonic duo but I can tell you they definitely feel cleaner!
Since I am pregnant with baby number four, and a reluctant cleaner to begin with, any cleaning appliance needs to be easy to use. The Sonic Duo came with color-coded cleaner, reusable bottles, and scrub pads. It was simple to mix the concentrated cleaning solution with water and attach the correct pads. The Sonic Duo really did glide across the floor and scrub away stuck-on dirt. It was far less effort for me than trying to use “elbow grease” with my usual mop pad cleaner. The 180-degree swivel steering makes it easy to get into tight spots.
When I do clean my rug, it is nice to know that the Sonic Duo uses a “Low Moisture -No-Rinse-Carpet Shampoo.”
I also appreciate that the pads are reusable–saving money and reducing waste at the same time. Also, because I am pregnant and have the aforementioned three kids and two cats, I am happy that the Sonic Duo uses non-toxic, biodegradable formulas that are safe for children and pets. There is also an “Activating Pretreater Carpet Stain and Odor Remover”…more good news for pet lovers!
The $249 MSRP is probably the biggest sticking point. However, there are no disposable pads and no batteries to buy (the Sonic Duo plugs into an electrical outlet).
