If you aren’t hosting your own holiday sweater party, I bet you’re going to at least one this season! We are a week away from Christmas and time is running short to get your paws on a great festive holiday sweater (remember, the more bling and blinking lights, the better).
Through the Ad Council’s campaign with Goodwill® they have developed a new, interactive tool that helps you have fun with seasonal clothing and reminds your friends of the importance of giving back during the holiday season.
It’s called the Sweater Yourself App, and you can play it online through your Facebook account.
To play, just take an existing Facebook photo, or upload a new one. Then select an avatar, clothing and accessories, and share with all of your friends a message of support for Goodwill’s mission to provide job training and community services to people in need. Check mine out:
After you’re done playing the game, check out their Snapguide on how to host a festive holiday sweater party for a good cause – using clothing you already have or new clothes purchased from your local Goodwill. The Snapguide walks you through the steps of hosting a holiday sweater party – from finding the perfect sweater to fit your personality through Goodwill’s online quiz and then getting outfitted at your local Goodwill store. After the party is over, all of your guests can donate their sweaters back to Goodwill.
Whenever you donate stuff to your local Goodwill – including holiday sweaters – you support Goodwill’s efforts to provide a variety of employment services to people with disabilities and disadvantages in your community. Try the locator tool on Goodwill’s homepage to find your nearest Goodwill location to donate your gently used goods. Through Goodwill’s Donation Impact Calculator, you can see how every item you give supports people who are seeking to earn jobs and build careers.
Last year, Goodwill provided employment training, job placement, financial education, youth mentoring and more to 6.7 million people in the United States and Canada. (To see how the process works, just watch our “How We Do It” PSA.)
Of course, don’t forget that all donations to Goodwill are considered charitable tax-deductions, including the festive holiday sweaters that you are ready to let go.
