Our friends like to joke that there are books in every room of our house–and they aren’t far off.
We have struggled with not only finding enough room for our books but for also keeping them organized. And then comes the weekly frantic search for the library books that are due. Especially difficult to wrangle are the children’s books. We try to find a balance between keeping them accessible and in-sight but also neatly arranged.

The designs were just so disappointing to this former art history teacher.
None of these designs were “Avant Garde”. To be fair, though, it is very difficult to produce an avant garde look in an era that has already slaughtered all of its sacred cows…especially when you are shopping exclusively at a fabric store. Even the more successful avant garde looks of prior seasons were more successful as “art looks”, than they were truly avant garde…
Guidecraft sent me an assortment of their Montessori-style wooden puzzles and the entire family is impressed!
Because the puzzles are open-ended, the educational potential of these puzzles is limitless. I worry about sun damage. I rub plenty of physical sunblock on my older two, dress them in UV-protectorant rash guards, and put on hats (which they inevitably remove) but I also don’t like them to be in direct sunlight for the entire outing–especially my newborn who is not supposed to use any sunscreen.
A great solution is a UV-protectorant tent like the Sun Smarties Pop-up Cabana and Beach Tent…
Heidi comes out in a gorgeous dress that I could never ever wear and announces the challenge: Make a dress for Nina.
Not only is this an outfit for Nina but it also must be a “day to evening” look…for a fashion editor who would not be caught dead wearing the same outfit to the office and an evening industry event. And it must photograph well because it is going to be in an editorial photo shoot. Plus it will be in an advertisement on taxi cabs. Make it work, people!
