At this point, everyone and their mother, heck everyone and their grandmother, probably knows that you can buy just about anything on Amazon.com.
But I have to admit that I never thought much about buying clothing on Amazon, even though I am comfortable purchasing clothing, especially children’s clothing, online. Amazon sent me a credit to buy some back-to-school clothing at their Kids’ Clothing Shop and, although I am not a total convert, I am impressed!
The designs were just so disappointing to this former art history teacher.
None of these designs were “Avant Garde”. To be fair, though, it is very difficult to produce an avant garde look in an era that has already slaughtered all of its sacred cows…especially when you are shopping exclusively at a fabric store. Even the more successful avant garde looks of prior seasons were more successful as “art looks”, than they were truly avant garde…
Oh, dear. Another team challenge.
Once again, Heidi, love that Teutonic goddess, is flogging her New Balance line.
The first twist is that they have to run for the leadership positions. Everyone runs really fast because no one wants to be paired with Bert…
Heidi comes out in a gorgeous dress that I could never ever wear and announces the challenge: Make a dress for Nina.
Not only is this an outfit for Nina but it also must be a “day to evening” look…for a fashion editor who would not be caught dead wearing the same outfit to the office and an evening industry event. And it must photograph well because it is going to be in an editorial photo shoot. Plus it will be in an advertisement on taxi cabs. Make it work, people!
Heidi comes out on stilts! I wish they hadn’t included so much of this in the previews but I guess with the public runway show it would have been hard to hide.
Frankly, I’m not sure how I feel about this challenge. It is more of a technical challenge for a costumer than a fashion design challenge. Playing with the proportions is somewhat relevant and the designers can take that back to their work. For the most part, though, this is basically a “design something pretty” challenge…but then make the skirt or pants really long…

After my first baby, I lost most of the 35 pounds I gained within a month. True, I would likely never fit into the size zero clothing from college ever again, and my body definitely changed, but I was comfortable in my new mommy body.
